My lovely friend and neighbor has created a blog for her art! http://sugarcookienebula.tumblr.com/ is one of the most amazingly talented people I’ve ever known. What you see on her blog is traditional art; everything looks that amazing on paper! She does commissions, has extremely reasonable prices, and will draw anything….take that as you will, haha! Anyway, I love her to pieces and wanted to share her lovely work with you all.
What are some of the curiosities you personally collect? I was hoping to find some pictures of them but I sort of got lost in your blog!
Hello there, kind anon! :) I collect all sorts of curiosities, though at the moment my collection is dominated by bones and taxidermy. I also have a wet specimen, a coffin plate, a very nice mounted insect collection, a freeze dried specimen (which is probably one of the most unique piece I have, actually)…I think I posted a picture once of some of my bones, quite some time ago…I’m without a camera, unfortunately. But I’ll hopefully be borrowing one very soon to get some photos! To be honest, some of my favorite kinds of oddities are the ones I don’t have! Automatons and Victorian hair art being among some of those examples.
It has been difficult, I’m low income and living on my own while trying to get through school, but when I was actively on the hunt, I constantly found things within my budget. For example, I managed to find a HUGE taxidermied raccoon for $40 at a flea market. I haven’t been able to purchase anything since the summer, but this break I managed to find a baby turtle specimen, and I’ll -hopefully- be getting a mummified fox kit. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Oh my, I didn’t mean to word vomit like this. D:
Be still, my beating heart! I contacted someone on Craigslist who had a WTB ad for oddities. As it turns out, they are stocking up to open an oddities store in Seattle sometime next year! With luck we’ll be meeting up soon for some sales/trades, and hopefully I’ll end up with a new contact! Is it sad this this is among the best news I’ve heard all year? ;_; So to all of you Washingtonians with a lust for the weird and wonderful, stay tuned!
